Save Money with the Best Loyalty Programs in Ireland
Published on 13 November 2023
Everyday you’re likely paying more for things than you should be. Whether it’s buying your groceries, skin care products or a coffee, lots of shops have loyalty programs offering massive savings. But every time you’ve been asked at the till “would you like to sign up” you’ve said “no” for some reason. We’re here to change your mind with our favorite loyalty programs in Ireland.
It’s quite possible you’re also paying too much for your phone plan. 48 offers all the calls, texts and data you could need for just €12.99 per month. So if you are paying more than that, sign up for 48 before reading on.
Now, onto those money saving customer loyalty programs.
Lidl Plus
Lord above, do we love Lidl Plus. As if the mystery of the middle aisle wasn’t enough to get us into Lidl, the app adds a whole bundle of in-store discounts. The Lild Plus app has a Treats section that’s full of savings. As we write this, the app is offering 23% off a bottle of Rosé, 44% off apples and 21% off chicken breasts. There’s also a €10 casserole dish on offer. It’s class.
Once you’ve done your shopping, the app will also send you a scratch card where you can win some freebies or extra discounts for your next visit to Lidl.
By using the app you can also opt for digital receipts. Just a nice little sustainability touch there. Just be sure to switch that on and scan at the tills when you pay.
If you don’t shop in Lidl be sure to check your local supermarket. The likes of SuperValu and Dunnes both offer great rewards program to save money on your weekly shop.
Three+
We’re not just including Three+ because Three is our parent company. Three+ genuinely has some stunning savings and freebies. It is exclusively available to Three customers and very worth signing up for.
One of the best aspects of being signed up for Three+ is access to presale tickets in the 3Arena and 3Olympia. That means you get a Ticketmaster pre-sale code and can buy your tickets before everyone else. In the 3Arena, you also get exclusive access to the Three+ Lounge where you get shorter queues for drinks and, most importantly, somewhere to leave your coat!
But there is a lot more to Three+. Every month there are discounts and vouchers for some of Ireland’s biggest stores. You might find discounts for anything from Elverys to Dunnes Stores. You’ll find some cracking savings in there.
It’s also a great way to keep up to date with Three’s latest offers on phones and cool tech for your home.
Boots Advantage
Is there ever a week goes by where you don’t say at least once, “I need to pop into Boots for that”. Every time you pay at a Boots till you really should be scanning your Advantage loyalty card. For every €1 you spend, you get 3 points. Each point is worth a cent, so 4,848 points would be worth €48.48.
Honestly, there is no better feeling at the Boots till than being told, “you can cover that with points if you like” as your money stays safely untouched in your bank account.
Our pro tip is to make sure you add your Advantage Card to your Apple Pay or Google Pay Wallet. That way if you forget your card you can still grab your points. Winning.
Squid
It feels like loyalty programs kind of started in coffee shops. You know the classic card that gets stamped 9 times and the 10th coffee is free? That’s if you manage to not lose the card on stamp 4. This is why we love Squid
Squid is an app where you tap your phone to collect your loyalty “stamps” on each visit to your local cafe or restaurant. We’ve spotted Squid while grabbing burritos in Zambrero and buying a coffee from van on Achill over in the West!
You’ll know if your local spot is accepting Squid, because they’ll have this little puck with Squid written on it beside the till. Just open your app and tap to collect your virtual stamp. Done!
Like your local supermarket, some coffee shops will have their own loyalty app so it’s worth asking them. Starbucks, for example, has an app where you collect 3 stars for every €1 spent. 150 stars means a free drink! It nearly always pays to ask about loyalty!
Electric Ireland Rewards
We say Electric Ireland Rewards, but really that just means check in with your energy provider. That is a really competitive market and loyalty is hard to earn. So these companies nearly always have some form of rewards program where it be Electric Ireland, SSE Airtricity or Borg Gáis Energy.
Electric Ireland have always on offers with savings on days out with your family, to Leisureplex discounts and savings to be had on your weekly shop. SSE Airtricity have discounts on smart home tech while you’ll find insurance discounts with Bord Gáis.
The moral of this story is to always check if the place you’re spending your money offers some sort of loyalty app or program. Because chances are, as annoying as that 30 seconds it takes to sign up is, it will end up saving you some real money.
Finally, one last reminder that if you are paying more than €12.99 for your monthly phone, it might be time to switch to 48 and save some money too!
